The web design process

The main steps invloved in creating a new website are:

The domain name

(eg. www.yourwebsitename.co.uk) you may have already registered a website address which you would like to continue to use, if not I can advise on the availability of an appropriate name and register it on your behalf.

The web hosting package

Once you have the website name you need somewhere to park it, again I can advise and arrange a suitable package for your requirements as part of the service, these packages can be set up on a one or two year basis.

Choosing a design

The type of overall layout and menu structure you choose will partly be driven by how many pages you need and the type of content your site will have. See the layout and menu pages for more details and examples. If you have a particular design in mind contact me to discuss your ideas.

Writing the content

Short and sweet is the order of the day for website text, keep it clear, concise and to the point. I can help to write or edit supplied text which is optimized for websites and will be read by visitors and search engines.

Photos & Slideshows

Photos are a vital element of any website, I can optimize your photos for the web and incorporate a slideshow of relevant images either as a banner, which appears as a key part of the design on every page or as a focal point such as a gallery page. Between 12-20 good, relevant images is usually sufficient to really add interest to a site.

The timescale

To design and build a 5-6 page website, edit and optimise client supplied photos including the creation of a banner slideshow or gallery feature; format client supplied text or assist in the writing of appropriate text will normally take around two weeks from the initial consultation. I also test the site in various browsers, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari and Google Chrome to ensure compatibility and optimise the site content and keywords for the major search engines, Google, Yahoo and Bing. Furthermore I will ensure the site is w3C compliant which is the benchmark for an error free, search engine and user friendly site.
