Website layout options

The purpose of a website may be to promote your business, product or organization but it can only really be regarded as succesful if it satisfies the users' reason for visiting. If the user is able to quickly find the relevant information from your website then it has achieved it's goal. The layout of a website should complement it's content.

Formatting Text on a website

Large bodies of text rarely work well on a web page, research has show that website visitors tend skim read web pages for snippets of information rather than trawl through large bodies of text. Text is best broken down into bite sized chunks with clear headings and contrasting text colours, relevant photos add visual appeal to the page.

Content overload

Avoid falling into the trap of cramming every available space with content just because the space is there. Thoughtfully written and applied text in a font which is easy to read surrounded with plenty of white space creates a calmer mood and a website which is far more likely to be read than a busy page dotted with random text boxes filled with irrelevant content.

Photos and other images

A picture undeniably speaks a thousand words, never more so than on web pages. However there are a few basic rules to keep in mind when choosing photos or images for your website.

I can prepare customer supplied images for web use by editing and formatting photos to optimise them for file size and picture quality. I can also prepare professional slideshows of photos for use as a rotating banner which can be a part of the overall design to bring the page to life, or as an effective means of creating a photo gallery.
